But just to close out the discussion of stretch tuning, I did some
experimentation today with my chromatic tuner and the KR-575. With the
stretch tuning OFF, notes matched up well on the tuner all the way up the
scale. With stretch tuning ON, by the top octave the piano was about 20
cents sharp relative to the tuner. As you can see, it is not a huge
difference, but enough to cause a PERCEPTION of slight flatness if playing
a two or three octave spread without the stretch. If you really want to
hear something that stands your ear on end, though, you should try the
"Arabic" tuning -- VERY, VERY flat thirds and sevenths, among other things!
