Subj: [kl] G hole update

...and while I'm correcting myself.... I carried out my threat and
looked closely at the G hole on new wood pro clarinets. The local store
only had only two different brands in stock (three instruments all
together), but two of them were Yamaha's and they had the same feature
that my instructor's pro wood Howarth has (and my plastic Yamaha doesn't
have): the chimney wall on the G hole is noticeably thinner than on all
the other ringed holes.
It seems unlikely (IMO) that this is accidental. There must be an
acoustical reason for it. A thinner wall is more prone to breakage, and
therefore manufacturers wouldn't do it without cause.

....and by the way, I've found a new adjective to describe clarinet
tone. I'm certain that Dan will like this one: FRIENDLY. Honestly,
that's how I feel about a certain instrument that probably I'm going to
buy, a nice friendly tone.
