<<<The Selmer Larry Teal models, among many others, also have round

It might be possible to bore one of THOSE out to Soloist specs.>>>

I doubt it. The bore of the Teal model is already quite a bit larger than
the traditional Selmer Soloist bore. I agree with those who have stated a
preference for these old sax mouthpieces. Selmer has redesigned them
several times, and every time they have, they have been less good than
previously, although I have found some of the latest models to be somewhat
improved.

My favorite alto sax mouthpiece is a Selmer C*, short barrel, made in
approximately the 1950's, and purchased in a pawn shop in San Francisco. In
my experience, this mouthpiece works well for most players, with most brands
of saxophones, and with most brands of reeds. Why Selmer decided to change
it has always been a mystery to me.
