The other side of the coin, though, is that playing with a bad embouchure
can actually be harmful! Louis Armstrong destroyed his chops with poor
technique, particularly too much pressure. Fortunately, he was able to
continue his career on the basis of his singing and personality, but he
actually PLAYED very little later in his career, because he really couldn't
any more. One wonders how much BETTER Dizzy could have played if not
hampered by his unorthodox embouchure, even granting that he did not leave
much ROOM for improvement!

The puffed out lip thing Andrea mentions might be interesting as an
experiment, but could encourage a loss of muscle control which will in the
long run prove undesireable.
