Actually, you will note from the models I cited, that is EXACTLY what I was
referring to. As far as Buffet is concerned, I would be not at all
surprised to learn that their plastic clarinet (E-11, I think) shares its
design with some other Buffet model (NOT the R-13) or an older pre-R-13
model. That is, in part, to protect the prestige of the pro line models
and make sure that players do NOT abandon them for the cheaper plastic
ones. Furthermore, while "mimic(ing) the acoustical properties of its
proline models" would be most desireable, and is in some ways achieved, the
main thing is that, from an engineering perspective, they are built to the
same measurements, can interchange parts, etc.
