Of course, you are comparing apples and oranges when dealing with
instruments from two different manufacturers. While we would, I'm sure,
LIKE to believe that manufacturers go out of their way to design student
clarinets to be especially forgiving, I really think they are much too
lazy and cheap to do so. In fact, my own observation suggests that their
plastic clarinets are generally just that -- identical versions of their
wood horns, but molded in plastic instead.

Before I buy a pro instrument, I will need to find my caliper and
micrometer (wherever they are buried in my house) and travel to a city
where a dealer stocks a variety of instruments, and I can make these
measurements myself.
As you correctly say, it's aways apples vs. oranges in my situation
-- because I never have everything in one place at one time.
One line of thought is: "If it sounds better or plays easier, then
what difference does a measurement make?" But the unavoidable fact is
that for some people, knowing _why_ something sounds better (or worse)
makes a difference in how the person uses the difference. It really
doe. I suppose that I'm one of these people, which is why I lost my
cool a little bit when discussing exactly what 'harmonicity" is. (for
which I apologize again)

Cheers and thank you,
Bill
