Does it feel weird to most of you to refer to your "Bb clarinet" as your
Bb "soprano" clarinet? More and more I find myself having to use this no-
menclature because it is not immediately evident to my french horn-playing
and oboe-playing and baboon-playing colleagues that I'm referring to a so-
prano instrument when I say "my Bb clarinet" (especially when I've got a
whole section's worth of instruments on stands in front of me for a given
concert). My bass clarinet is a "Bb clarinet" too, of course, and it's
certainly easy enough to get a low-Eb out of *that* instrument.
