Buffet R13, Buffet DG, Selmer 10S, Howarth are all pretty much the same
on that hole. I don't have the Yamaha to compare.

So certainly if that hole gives you trouble on the Howarth, and your
Yamaha doesn't, then the difference in wall thickness might be an
explanation.

Is the hole itself the same size, and only the wall thicker? Making the
wall thicker would be something that didn't require an acoustic change,
and could perhaps qualify as a design decision aimed at making the
instrument more suitable for a beginner -- if wider walls do have that
effect for beginners in general.

Which side of the hole does your finger tend to uncover, when it does
that unwantedly? Is it the side nearest your fingertip, or the side
farthest away from your fingertip? Or neither of these, but at some
angle?
