That's not the way I understood it. I think they mean ON is the default
setting -- normal piano stretch tuning. OFF actually removes the stretch
and makes the piano play straight equal temperament, so it will be in tune
with other instruments, including others in its OWN MIDI set, without
sounding out of tune, as you and Lelia have noticed. "Standard" tuning
curve, in this sense, would mean standard to all other instruments EXCEPT
piano. While playing in ensemble it would sound fine, but would likely
sound somewhat "off" to our ears all by itself.
