Yes David, and if you are REALLY sharp, run backwards as fast as you can!

Bill is right, the Doppler shift is enough to be heard.

I sometimes do a cool lecture demo playing something simple like a recorder.
Play a steady note and walk towards a wall. (Of course, you need marching
band practise to be able to keep it steady ... nooooo, don't go near that!).
Then you get nice rapid beats between the note you are hearing and the
Doppler-shifted note coming back. The audience hears them too (though at a
slightly different frequency!).

This makes a great analogy to an aspect of dynamical theory of X-ray
diffraction, as I am sure you all wanted to know.
