I assume that you probably got a Sony TCD-D8, 100, M1, etc... machine as
they are pretty popular and not too expensive. If you want to access the
Digital Out, you will need to get the RMR D-100 kit. It costs about $200
and comes with a remote control, optical and coax ins and outs. There are
some cheaper digital cables you can get, but they lack in reliability
sometimes.

Most Computer sound cards with digital I/O these days have a S/PDIF
interface on a coax (phono plug) connecter. I believe the Sound blaster
Live series has a Digital I/O. With the cheaper cards, if you go in analog,
you will end up taking a pretty big hit in your fidelity.

Also, make sure that you import the audio at 16bit 44.1kHz sampling rate.
Otherwise, once again, you will take a pretty big hit in your audio quality.
Also if you want to make CD's for use in a normal CD player, don't bother
encoding into MP3 format. Keep it as a .wav file and burn directly from
there. It *will* take up more space on your hard drive, but then you won't
have to deal with encoding and decoding MP3's-- another set of processes
that are extremely destructive to the sound.

Hope this helps a bit.
