<<<That baby is SOOOOOOO cute!>>>

Why, thank you. We think so too, but are perhaps not objective about it.

<<<So, how do you find time to practice clarinet with the ages of those
three???? I find it quite impossible with a 10 and a 12 year old??????>>>

Um, I think you have figured out a personal shortcoming of mine. My wife &
I escape 2-3 times a week for rehearsals due to the presence of a guardian
angel (a/k/a grandma). But I certainly play a _lot_ less - clarinet, golf,
whatever - than I did three short years ago!

<<<As far as playing soft tones, etc., DON'T!!! I played my clarinet while
pregnant and both children play instruments now - one on alto sax and one
clarinet player!! Both love to sing!! To calm them down as infants and
toddlers, I always played some classical music for them - very soothing. I
also liked to play all types of music for them so they know a variety of
styles and types. Especially Big Band type music.>>>

I have not noticed a correlation between the style of music played and
infant/toddler somnolence. In the automobile, the most effective selection
is a toss-up between the Chicago Symphony's live recording of Mahler 5 and
The Best of Stevie Ray Vaughn.

My eldest (all of 3 years old) appears to be a trumpet player - must have
had too much Maynard Ferguson on or something. He can buzz Teletubbie songs
on a trumpet mouthpiece, which I hope is a good sign. His arm is too short
to reach the valves, however, so his formal training will have to wait.
We're trying a little piano, but his palm spread is exactly 2 white keys
(similar problem). We'd try one of those itty-bitty violins, but he'd feed
it to the cat, I'm afraid.
