Klarinetters,
I`ve done some research on the Respighi low Eb`s on the Bb instru. It turns
out that in "Pines of Rome" 1924,
the beginning of the 2nd movt has one low Eb. There >is time to change to
the A and transpose, the previous (1st) movt is on the Bb. And there >is
time to change back again - the movt continues on the Bb. >That, I s`pose is
fortunate for Respighi if the trend to play on full Boehm`s has
disappeared. >With full Boehm`s available therefore, at that time, (when
Respighi was writing his "Rome" epics), I find it strange that he didn`t
make more use of the low Eb on the Bb instru. In all three of the "Rome"
symphonic poems, he uses it but once!
