On my Mark VII alto and tenor, the neck screw doesn't do much... i can still
move the neck and take it in and out without loosening the screw.. but i
usually do so anyway.

Saw a performance of Brecker or Sanborn once (can't remember which) and they
had to keep their hand on the neck to keep it from rotating down when he had
his horn resting by the necktrap. heh.. not sure if he didn't have the
screw or if his was just so worn that it didn't do any good.

What I tend to do, since when standing, I prefer the direct in front
method...is on pieces that I solo, I go ahead and edge the seat and play
horn in front for the whole work. For the ones I don't solo on, I crook
the mouthpiece and neck and drop the horn to the side. It's a rather
minor adjustment to the neck and mpc if you keep the cork greased and
don't overtighten the neckscrew.
