I'm interpreting this in just the opposite manner. Keys don't have to end
up a certain distance from the body- they just have to let the _pad_ end up
a certain distance from the body. (I'm not talking about rings right now)
Where the touch piece is doesn't make the key have to travel further
(unless other things are going on as well). It seems to me that if the key
is in a comfortable place for your finger to operate it then that is best
and fastest regardless of where in space it is.... For rings I'd tend to
agree with Neil.
