Orion, to use myself as an example, and depending on exactly what
the word 'fuzzy' means to you, twice now I have begun to hear myself as
too 'buzzy'. Moving up to a stiffer reed produced a clearer tone each
time.
I assume that at some point (perhaps 3-1/2 or 4 ??), increasing the
stiffness no longer helps. But if you are playing a 1-1/2 or 2 or 2-1/2
right no, perhaps your reed is still too floppy to give a clear tone,
and you are just beginning to hear this as your other weaknesses fall
away. (Stiffness varies with the brand of reed, of course.)
Sometimes it helps me to think about having my entire lip (across
the entire width of the reed) in equally firm contact with the reed. --
which includes drawing the sides of my mouth inwards towards the center.

Cheers,
Bill (This makes $.04 for me today)
