I stopped playing sax after high school specifically to concentrate on
the clarinet. I felt at the time that I wasn't making significant enough
progress on clarinet, due to a division of my energy and technical develop-
ment between the two instruments. Of primary concern to me was the embou-
chure, since the two instruments do not use the same technique in that re-
gard, to a more disparate degree than finger technique.

My current opinion: I echo what David Hattner wrote, which is that sax playing
is only detrimental if it is done to the exclusion of practicing clarinet. I'm
still the type of person who needs to focus on one thing at a time, and I'll
probably never pick up the sax again, simply because I'm so dedicated to re-
developing and applying my clarinet abilities. But that's just how my brain
and personality work, not my body. Anybody who has sufficient dedication and
discipline can become successfully expert on both instruments, and many more
beyond the two, needless to say -- none to the detriment of any of the others.

The short answer to your question: nope.
