The choir of St Paul=B4s Cathedral from Buffalo, New York were singing
in York Minster, and again, without planning, we bumped into them at
lunch in one of York`s old pubs. After a couple of beers, they sang
beautifully - William Byrd and Bruckner Anthems. GLORIOUS.

Moments like that beat a formal concert any time, don't they? (I
experienced a similar moment with Joan Baez once, after a school dance.)
You're a lucky man. Welcome back.

And speaking of London pubs.... My Dad and Mom once took me on a
barge down the Thames when I was a kid, and they stopped at a dock along
the river in front of a pub in order to play darts, but (of course) my
Dad left me in the barge with the captain's wife and my Mom. When my
Dad and the captain returned with a description of what it was like
inside, I suffered a little bit and I still remember it clearly. My Dad
lost a pound or two at the dart board.
The truth is, those memories are one of the prime reasons that I
would like to return to London someday. I don't know if it's still
possible to hitch rides on family barges these days?

<><> Don`t look at Bill`s 10 reasons Gary, he`s <deadly> serious.

Actually, reason #1 *was* serious and for real. I had never eaten
a whole garlic before, and so I tried it. I don't mind the taste of
garlic as a seasoning, and other people in my household thought the
taste of an entire garlic was great, but frankly it didn't turn me on.
Afterwards I went upstairs to practice, and I brushed my teeth, but
since garlic hangs around for a while, I really did wonder if my reed
and corks would pick up the taste and aroma.
I decided to practice anyway. So tomorrow I'll learn the answer to
another important question about clarinet playing.

Cheers,
Bill
