Start with as high of a quality master as possible. Which would you rather
listen to? A cassette made off of a cassette or a cassette off of a CD.
You can record to cassette if you are sure that you aren't going to want to
dub different takes. Second generation cassettes are just bad, though. It
is all the problems of a cassette-- doubled.

Also, a lot of auditions and festivals are getting to the point where they
will accept CD's as well. With the proliferation of CD burners, this is
much more of an option. I either burn discs off of my computer or using a
stand-alone CD burner. Either way works.

I have never heard of a festival accepting DATs or MD. The oddest format I
have heard of is the Verbier festival in Europe accepting MP3 files e-mailed
to them.
