Michael,
thanks for your help with this.
I'm thinking about doing a lecture on 20th c clarinet performance
styles, and I would like to trace players back through their teachers.
I've been reading a wonderful book,Early Recordings and Musical Style by
Robert Philip, published by Cambridge university Press.
It was interesting to realise how short a time there is between the way
we play today and the way things were done at the beginning of the
century.
This is better documented in piano and string playing, but there are some
early recordings of clarinet which illustrate these differences, also.
I'm just in the preliminary stages of this right now,so I'm not sure
exactly where it will lead, but your information is very helpful.
Another player whose teacher I've never seen mentioned is Ullysse
Delecluse.
Does anyone know his teacher?

regards,
