I don't know if that adjustable thumb rest is a good thing in practice; =
I had a Buffet Festival that had one and it was very uncomfortable, =
because the spot for your thumb was quite small and metal. It did slide =
up or down but so what? It still hurt. Plus, the rest itself was too =
small for one of those rubber pads to fit on it.

For me the real pain isn't from the thumb but from the wrist. I heard =
about a mini-peg that reaches to the chair and supports the weight =
there. Or maybe rig something that rests on your leg (if you sit) and =
supports the weight. For me the question is moot because I've switched =
to alto clarinet mostly and have a floor peg for it. It's great - no =
strain anywhere. You just let it balance itself while you do the =
fingerings. I would like to try a floor peg that wraps around the bell =
of the Bb clarinet (where the ring is) and telescopes down, supporting =
all the weight.

Anyway I've heard that all new Buffets will have the adjustable thumb =
rest from now on. Is that true?
