Tony, if that's what it takes for you to tolerate *your* playing, the amount
of alcohol required to drown the deficiencies of my playing would probably be
enough to flood your fair country to the point of starting a new mythology
about the fabled and no doubt fictitious United Kingdom, that sank beneath
the waves like Atlantis, lo these many years ago. Sometimes, on a calm and
moonlit night, a warm night when the ocean smells faintly of fermented grape,
if you lay down the oars and listen carefully, you can hear the haunting
melody of a clarinet above the lapping of the waves, with perhaps the ghostly
voice of Cecil Kellaway drifting along with the tide. He's singing,
"Landlord, Fill the Flowing Cup."

Then tonight I'll merry merry be,
Then tonight I'll merry merry be,
Then tonight I'll merry merry be,
Tomorrow I'll be sober.

Only he won't.

Merry meet--
Hic!

(Hoc. Propter hoc. Dick Vigorous ran up the clock...to see who'd salute.
Nobody. Never practice drunk. The motes get all nixed up.)
