Every horn I've seen at exhibits the last year and a half from Buffet have
had adjustable thumbrests. Including the R-13.

The E-11 is their student wood model. Even the B-12 (plastic model) has an
adjustable thumbrest.

It could be that you bought your horn within that time but it was actually
produced earlier, before they started making the adjustable thumbrest
standard. I know several people who have bought new horns but the serial
number is a year or two older. Just depends on how often the place sells
the model or if no one's liked that particular horn before them, etc...

I'm not so sure about that. I just purchased a new R-13 Bb not too long ago
and the thumbrest is anything but adjustable. I wish it were! I think the
real problem for me is that they are just placed too low.

I'm not familiar with the E-11. Is it a student or pro model?

I believe Buffet now makes ALL their clarinets with adjustable thumbrests as

standard equipment. Though it's not the style that used to come on the or
Festival and Prestige models. It's like what comes on their E-11 model.
It's a little more cumbersome.. and not as stylish... but i guess it works.

David
(a.k.a. gidget rhinobuns...thanks Lacy!!)

Somebody appreciated it! Thanks, David. I'm going to try something, and
soon! Maybe I'll start with a nice letter to Buffet Crampon suggesting they
make adjustable thumb rests standard on all pro models. I seriously think
many people wouldn't mind the slight $ increase in exchange for a major pain
decrease!
