Subj: [kl] Mozart's wife and Carl Maria Weber
Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 07:39:45 -0400

David Niethamer mentions a genetic relationship between Mozart's wife,
Constanze Weber and the composer Carl Maria Weber.

They were first cousins sharing the same grandfather. She came from the
oldest son of the common grandfather and Carl came from the youngest.

Carl's father, was convinced that there was royalty in the family. So
after an appropriate amount of study and the finding of minor nobility
several hundred years previously, he assumed the honorific "von" which
is why we call him Carl Maria von Weber today.

Constanze was the daughter of the poorest of the Weber brothers and she
was one of four daughters.
