The Beer jokes went quite far in my pedagogy classes, and even appeared in
my papers and outlines. When I turned in an outline in my first
ped class stating that Stamitz wrote his concerti for Beer, he scribbled
in red in next to it, "He should have gotten at least scotch." For the
second class, I used his quote as the title for the section devoted to
Beer. However, on that outline, one of the points I wrote was that
Stamitz had a close friendship with Beer dating back to 1770. I then
added the following subpoint: "I personally have a close friendship with
Beer dating back to August of 1999."

Not only did Dr. Borchert's little quip appear as the title of the
Stamitz/Beer section of my paper, but the establishment of the French
school ended with this statement:

"In fact, Parisians had very much disliked the clarinet altogether until
they had heard with their own ears how wonderful Beer was. (Doesn't
everything seem a little cooler after Beer?)"

The last comment remained in my final draft...Dr. Borchert's reply was
"preferrably Pete's Wicked Ale."
