Subj: [kl] Dentist recommendation needed

Al,

I certainly can make an excellent recommendation, as last year I had my FOUR
front teeth replaced with a seven-tooth bridge. The dentist was Dr Robert
Wellman of 15000 Arapahoe Boulevard ... technically Englewood rather than
Denver but close enough (I live downtown). He has not particularly
specialised in musicians in the past, but took me very seriously when I
explained about clarinet playing and worked with me to rebuild the
embouchure, and got enthusiastic about solving wind players problems and is
a first-rate dentist. I have a super hi-tech platinum-palladium-fused enamel
bridge, which is extremely strong. I am playing much better than I had for
years; though I didn't get as bad as only lasting 15 mins, I now realise
that my front teeth had had a bad influence on the embouchure for some
years.

The bridge was the right solution for me, but something else, such as an
implant, could be better for her; it depends on the amount of bone support
left under the teeth (too little in my case for an implant, and in any case
that takes you out of playing for quite a long time). Bob knows quite a bit
about the problems of clarinettists thanks to me, and will advise her
intelligently. I think the most important thing is to have a REALLY good
dentist.

The sound is a little different to me of course, without the more direct
bone conduction through the front teeth, but probably more realistic.

If you or she wants to email me off the list I'd be happy to email or speak
to her about it, and give her an idea of the costs.
