Subj: [kl] Appoggiaturas as explained in the Klose Method
Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 20:00:15 -0400

In the Klose Method there area couple of pages explaining "The Appogiatura".
In the second paragraph of the prefatory comments there is the following
statement:

"Its [the appoggiatura's] duration is half or two thirds of the note upon
which it resolves itself; according to whether the note is pointed or not
pointed."

This statement doesn't seem to apply to the duet which follows the comments.
The appoggiaturas in the duet are either half notes that resolve to eighth
notes or eighth notes that resolve to sixteenth notes. All of the
appoggiaturas are slurred to the notes upon which they resolve, so the point
about "whether the note is pointed or not pointed" is also confusing.

Could someone explain how long an appoggiatura should be in relation to the
note upon which it resolves?

Thanks,

Laurie Pestoni
