Depends. Their principle advantages are long life and consistency -- they
play the same from day to day. Also, since you do not need to wet them,
they are perfect for doubling, especially when one horn sits on the stand
for a long time before being used. (I should get a Legere myself for gigs
like the one I have coming up this week -- I play lead alto sax in a big
band and have Moonlight Serenade, three songs from the end, on which I play
the lead clarinet line!) Disadvantages include sound and articulation
qualities inferior to cane reeds, in differing degrees depending upon
brand. Legeres appear to be very good, judging from what is posted on the
list. I find that Fibracells are not bad, but tend to play flat for me.
Avoid Bari.
