One very interesting article:
Paul J. Heald, "Reviving the Rhetoric of the Public Interest: Choir Directors, Copy Machines, and New Arrangements of Public Domain Music," 46 Duke Law Journal 241 (1996). Unfortunately, it's not online (the online version starts at a later page than this).

In the UK typographical elements are copyrightable for 25 years (s 8 CDPA 1988).
Australia protects typegraphical elements for 25 years (Part IV _Copyright Act 1968 (Cth)_).
Singapore protects typegraphical elements (I don't have the cite).
Italy protects typegraphical elements (I don't have the cite).

In all these cases you are restricted from making exact copies; extracting the score and reformatting is perfectly acceptable.

I'll get more cites as I can. It's interesting reading.

BTW - the complete Feist decision is available online all over the place. Oliver extracted the salient points.
