Published band music used to have multiple copies of all the different =
parts. There is a slow move to having 1 copy of each part on all single =
pages. The director must take the single copy, make multiple copies, have =
a student worker (if lucky) tape the parts together AND THEN rehearse the =
piece. =20
1. The last work with this problem had a copyright symbol on each part, =
making it impossible to copy through traditional channels. YET the work =
was unperformable without the multiple parts. =20

2. That piece was actually 50% more expensive than the traditional music =
with a set of multiple parts.

3. Taped together music never looks as good or lasts as long as normal =
parts, besides being on too small and flimsy paper!

4. We complain about the cost of a traditionally published music,,,BUT...H=
aving a score on CD rom would require you to print off all your parts, =
using your own paper and printer ink, make multiple copies (band parts), =
collate and tape them together, maybe having enlarged them to larger =
paper. Then in 15 years the paper is brittle, tape has fallen off, and =
the ink smeared,,,you try to play the music again! Arg.

I am about to start the arduous task of picking the music for my two =
ensembles this week with a limited budget!
