I agree about this edition and Bellison's markings. On the other hand, when I
hear Bellison's recording of the Mozart Quintet, I don't care because he is
making real music out of it. Even if some of his ideas are 'misguided' he
does them in a very convincing and honest way.

I guess the problem is that these markings on the page are only the crudest
sort of approximation of what it takes to make real music. Probably to Mr.
Bellison they made sense as a shorthand for how he played a phrase, but as
the inverse of Tony's example, I think you could also follow the markings to
the letter and still make it unmusical (completely aside from the question of
18th century performance practice).<<<
