I am disappointed that Nigel Kennedy was part of the mish-mash. From
what i experienced in a concert that i saw him live he IS capable of
doing a competent job on that type of program.

I heard him about 10 years ago. I was the concert twice, because i was
so fascinated by a work premiered on the same program. Nigel played
Beethoven Violin Concerto. The second performance, i had mooched a
ticket and was only about 12 rows from the stage. I was focusing on the
violin part, and smiled in reaction to a fluid scale passage. Kennedy
spotted my attention, communicated that the piece was about human issues,
not about violin technique. The remaining 2and1/2 movements was one of
the strongest musical experiences of my life. During the cadenza, i
recognized a quote from Sibelius concerto, but still tied into Beethoven.
As an encore, he played, with the backup of one of the basses, a jazz
tune(something like Sweet Georgia Brown). It was FINE.

Nigel Kennedy is capable of transcending types and styles. I hope that
he finds the way to use his abilities.
