That was Emanuel Feuermann -- Heifetz's favorite cellist -- in an
American newspaper in 1938. Today we hear 'education, education,
education' but all this appears to mean is 'dumbing down, dumbing down,
dumbing down'. Just what does 'access' mean if you kill off the product
you're trying to promote?

This is exactly what I meant when I made my 'ugly' accusation that
I have heard groups off-camera or off-mike who aim their music at
teen-aged audiences, and they *can* perform better than they actually do
on their big hits.
I am convinced that they do this -- or are encouraged/instructed to
do this -- in order *NOT* to overpower their intended audience. Fandom
can be built on identification or desire or awe. If you are so
impressed that you can't imagine yourself doing the same thing during
your own lifetime, or being accepted by the person who can do it, then
only awe remains. So these performers work at *NOT* overpowering their
audience because fans @-----. IMO
