I disagree. I do feel that the 2nd movement is the best. It is very
beautiful. But at the end of the 3rd movement the phrase is repeated and
HALVED in each repitition. This a a device that builds tension and
excitement. This climaxes into the final statement (in staccato eighths)
that ends with a very nice progression landing on the tonic. Not so bad.
I believe that this halving of phrases is a common musical technique.
Tschakowsky used it in the 1812 overture a lot in descending lines leading
to major themes.
