Klarinet Archive - Posting 001412.txt from 2000/06

Tony Pay posted a message raising some interesting, "Whether classical
music?" questions, but I'm not able to sort it out well enough to respond to
it. In aol, the digest arrives as ASCII text only, so I'm missing markers
such as automatic paragraph indentations that may have been formatted on a
word processor to indicate block paragraph quotations. The message begins
with a quotation from cellist Emanuel Feuermann in manuscript-style quotation
marks:
>"It has been my observation that the first step in teaching people to
>appreciate good music is to over power them completely by sheer
>majesty. . . . [snip]"
and ends with,
>Annette Morreau, The Independent, 28 May 2000
Was that a link to an article written by her? If so, the hyperlink didn't
appear. Did she quote Feuermann, or did you? Is "Kennedy" violinist Nigel
Kennedy? Please forgive my ignorance, but over here in the former colonies,
I'm not familiar with this festival, Anne Morreau or The Independent (I know
it's the title or part of the title of a number of periodicals and at least
one website -- or does she call herself The Independent?). Are you quoting
from a review written by Annette Morreau, or are you reacting to a review she
wrote, or...?
