Well, they teach us that what Pamela Weston's horrible UNIVERSAL EDITION
(for heaven's sake) does is way off beam: that's useful information in
the constant battle against corruption of the text by 'enthusiastic'
editors. Moreover, they teach us that Hogwood's suggestion -- that the
viola arrangement may well contain important and interesting information
about what Mozart originally wrote -- is likewise implausible.

Because if it wasn't there, your statement "I know how those measures go
from the clarinet version which I presume represents the now lost
autograph" would be conjecture at best. The original might have been
significantly different.

And there are a few details -- like the variants of bar 94 -- that are
suggestive, as I've recently been saying.

But even if you discount that, what it really comes down to for me is
that we can be confident about most of what we already have.

Isn't that important?
