Dear Bill,

Please don't take me wrong, and I mean no disrespect, but I believe that
different ligatures do make a difference. (My belief is only an opinion and
I realize that opinions on this subject vary wildly.) I think that less than
a year of playing is too little time to appreciate the possible differences.
These differences are sometimes very subtle. If you can't tell any
difference, by all means just stick with the generic, stock ligature.
Nothing wrong with that, and you don't need to apologize to anyone for that
decision. Many people share your view, or a modified view, contending that
the small perceivable difference does not justify the sometimes big money
difference.

In time, a few years down the road, you might reconsider again trying
different ligatures. At that time, you might come to the same conclusion or
you might decide that that subtle difference justifies the substantial
expense.

Best wishes for a happy life on the clarinet.
