Subj: [kl] low Eb in L'histoire du Soldat
Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 16:17:56 -0400

Hello everybody, Can anyone help me with the following?

I have recently been working on the trio version of Stravinsky's
L'histoire du Soldat. In my edition (pub. International Music Company)
the clarinet part goes down to the low Eb twice in the second movement.
Now, to my knowledge, that note doesn't exist on the standard A
clarinet. What is the common practice when dealing with that note? Is
there a way to manipulate the horn to produce it, or do we need a
special horn (like a 'full boehm' clarinet)? I have tried taking it up
an octave and leaving the note out, and it just doesn't work. Any help
would be greatly appreciated..
