That will definitely make it hard to blow, and could affect the intonation
as well.

The Selmer HS* is a good hard rubber mouthpiece, not everyone's cup of tea
perhaps, but a very popular one nonetheless. The facing is relatively
close, so it needs a fairly stiff reed to perform well, and should be
fairly stable in its overall tuning. Of course, if the facing is damaged,
all bets are off.
With most of the Selmer USA clarinets our store sells, we provide the HS*
automatically to avoid the junk that comes standard with them.
