It depends where you're sitting. Usually the principal won't play anything
except Bb/A; there'll be a specific Eb player and a specific bass player.
Having said that, the principal in the local symphony (who also happens to
be my teacher) does own Eb, Bb, A and bass. If there's a seperate Eb or
bass part, it's not her responsibility; however, if the first part calls for
Eb or bass (Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique, some Mahler (?), Kodaly Hary
Janos Suite) then she is expected to play those parts. So it can be useful!
