I had the luxury of having the army buy me those expensive ear plugs. I
thought the sound with those in my ears were hideous, but better than the
other kind that people normally use. A much better solution for us were those
wenger sound Shields. Those fold up music stand like Plexiglas shields. They
stood behind you chair and blocked the full force of a Neanderthal brass
section. And they lowered substantially the dB level at your ears. If you
want to use those ear plugs, I would definitely practice with them in and get
very used to playing with them.
