I heard the Rite of Spring performed on Saturday night (NZ Symphony
Orchestra - did a very very good job), and being unable to see the clarinet
section, and not having a program, I couldn't work out what the clarinet
section was comprised of. I figured out that there were two bass clarinets
and an eefer, but what is there apart from that? I'm in awe of the first
bass player - if that part is half as hard as it sounds, there had been some
serious practice going on! Not something I'd want to tackle......
