I remember a discussion on the list about using an A clarinet instead of a
Bb, because one could play orchestra parts in an easier key.
I have been temted to do the same in our ensemble with an Arabian Ud player.
In order to sound better, the Ud is tuned one half tone lower. So I end up
playing the compositions and improvisations in C#, which is not easy on a
clarinet. For the moment I keep on playin on my Bb clarinet, because it is a
good excersise. If I had to record the more up tempo compositions, I would
look for an A clarinet. Does anyone have experience with this?
