I hope the production of mp3 downloads is linked enough to this list to
justify my asking What, in simple terms, is the process?

Do you record with conventional media [tape, cd, minidisc, etc.] and
then convert to the mp3 format with a computer?

Or can you record directly into a computer with the right software?

Would appreciate a tutorial on the subject, or a reference to an
appropriate web site or other authoritative source.
