LOL! I used to wonder the same thing. I figured a cuckoo bird probably
sounded something like a cuckoo clock. Then, the first time I heard a real,
live cuckoo bird remark, "Cuckoo!" I had to laugh, because it sounded
*exactly* like a clarinet playing, "Cuckoo!" 'Fraid we're stuck with the
role.
