Subject: [kl] Jazzy Solo with orch needed
In April 2001 I will play the Weber 2 with a community orchestra in NW
Pennsylvania, my first paid concerto gig! They have just asked if I could
also play some jazzy solos (Goodman/Shaw) with orchestra acc. They might
choose to use 1 movement of Weber and a bunch of these others. (A great
friend is the conductor so I am flexible) I had originally suggested the
Copland but it was considered too hard and contemporary(!) for them.
They want something on the program to attract a larger audience, so swing
was suggested by some of their board members. To think that a well played
Weber concerto on clarinet would not attract like a pianist playing
Beethoven, such a tragedy!
So,,,
Do any of you know of available arrangements of Goodman solos, or swing
tunes or something suitable? Original works in a jazz style or pop style?
Help!
