It is unfortunate that so many people mistake their personal dislikes for
inadequacy in the music. Is it not enough to claim a dislike without
subjective and 'universally' evaluative comments like 'stunk', junk',
boring' etc as if this was the final word? Sting has commented that there is
no bad music, only bad musicians, and keeping this in mind would dispense
with a lot of the musical prejudice that almost denies disliked music (and
musicians) the right to exist. Can you imagine the reaction from such people
(I hesitate to use the word 'musicians', as a musician should be open to new
ideas, different angles) if someone were to criticise their cherished
favourites in the same way?

I have seen two of Phillip Glass's operas and they both stunk as far
as I am
concerned. I had much sympathy for the poor orchestra having to
play that
mess, and I was just glad it wasn't me. What boring junk. The
worst piece I
have ever heard is a little piece for band called "Ginger Marmalade"
by
Warren Benson. Some of Benson's music is fine, but this one is a
real dud.
Of course some pieces of music are more boring to listen to than to
play and
vice versa.
