I didn't couldn't hear the piece for the (shudder) echoes about 5 years
after an undergrad classmate demonstrated how inappropriate tenor sax
embouchure and polka band sound was for the piece.

Then i bought a couple of bargin bin versions.

Then Tony Pay's performance came thru the library one fine day. Changed
my attitude. (just recently remembered why his name seemed familiar)..

I also had a similar experience with Sheperd on the Rock, heard
performed with boring enunciators. Got asked to play with a new voice
teacher in town, found a good recording, had a grand time playing the
piece.
