In the same way that Roger Garrett feels that Percy Grainger has a few
redeeming qualities (i agree with you, Roger) i would ask those who have
said that they do not like any of Persichetti's music--have you heard (or
better, played) his Pastorale for wind quintet? It's not world-class but
it is a very pleasant piece. It also is not in the same mold as some of
the band pieces i remember from high school (or at least as i remember
them...it's been a few years).
