Kalmen Opperman recommends Nye Clock Oil for keys. For the squeamish, it is
whale oil (or, more likely these days, porpoise oil). It's _very_ light and
works very well. The best way to apply it is with the tip of a rattail file
(no rats were killed). There's no need to loosen the screws, since it is so
thin it's pulled right in by capillary action. Being an animal oil, it goes
rancid in about a year.

On the other hand, when Francois Kloc sets up at the conventions, he opens
what looks like a container of axle grease -- grease, anyway. He says that's
what they use at the Buffet factory and that it doesn't dry out or interfere
with key action. Of course, axle grease is a petroleum product that comes
from dinosaurs....
